Donegal Lane Parkway Access Closes

Intersection permanently closing as of Tuesday, April 10.

The intersection of Donegal Lane and the Fairfax County Parkway will permanently close on April 10. Virginia Department of Transportation officials said an overpass will instead carry the new alignment of Rolling Road over the parkway. (See this map for details.) Multiple lane closures will begin starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Drivers may also run into temporary traffic stoppages between 10 a.m. and noon that day so crews may remove traffic signals. Once the roadwork is complete, drivers will not be able to access Donegal Lane from the Fairfax County Parkway. Instead, they will have to take Rolling Road or take the Barta Road exit ramp. Rolling Road Overpass Construction

Overnight Parkway closures scheduled through September 1.

Crews continued to hang the beams for the Rolling Road overpass along the Fairfax County Parkway in the Springfield area on Tuesday night. On Wednesday and Thursday, from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m., the southbound lanes will intermittently close for 20 minutes at a time, while crews continue the work. Police will be on site to assist with the lane closures. The Rolling Road overpass is scheduled to open to traffic in May 2012. When open, the exit from the Fairfax County Parkway to Donegal Lane will close. The newly realigned Rolling Road is part of the final phase of the Fairfax County Parkway project.
