Speak Out: Should Springfield be the Location for FBI Headquarters?

Fairfax County Supervisors are in full support of FBI headquarters relocating in the Springfield area. What do you think?

For months now, local, state and congressional leaders have been discussing six potential sites for a new FBI headquarters. One of the six locations being considered is Fairfax County's preferred location, a federal warehouse near the Franconia-Springfield Metro Station. Lee District Supervisor Jeff McKay is in full support of the FBI headquarters locating in Springfield because it would be located right across from the Franconia-Springfield Metro Station and a Virginia Express Rail ride away from Quantico. Recently, McKay urged the WMATA Board Members to avoid taking sides and to be fair when he found out about WMATA offering the 78 acres of land it owns at the Greenbelt station to promote the relocation of the FBI headquarters. I like the idea of government buildings moving further away from DC, cut down on some of the traffic heading into the city. Springfield is already a commuter mess, but it's still better than DC. In my opinion, I would like to see them move to Centreville/Chantilly and parts west. More Than 200 Pack Serial Groper Meeting Thursday Night in Springfield

Fairfax County Police reviewed the case Thursday night involving a serial groper stalking residents in Springfield in 22 incidents since September. Police answered questions from a room filled with about 250 residents at a town hall-type meeting.

McKay said he was glad to see the turnout at the meeting and said that together, everyone will help FCPD catch the suspect. Watch video of …

Springfield Mall to Close All but Anchor Stores

Major renovations scheduled to begin in July will leave only the anchor stores intact.

Springfield Mall will close all stores except the anchor department stores come July, according to tenants at the mall. Macy's, Target and JCPenney will remain open as New York-based Vornado Realty Trust begins a two-year renovation of the property. Shopper Mary Yastishock said she remembered Princess Diana’s 1985 visit to Springfield Mall. “It’s changed so much since then,” she said. "For two decades, coming here has been like watching a neighborhood die.” Her college-aged daughter Alex agreed. “I remember coming as a child to visit Santa and ride the carousel, then as a teen to the movie theaters,” she said.  “This used to be a really happening place.” “Now we come to see which stores have closed,” said Mary. “It seems forever they’ve …
