The Fairfax County Park Authority has released preliminary plans for the Pohick Stream Valley-Liberty Bell Trail project for public review and download. According to a news release, the Pohick Stream Valley-Liberty Bell Trail project will connect the new Burke VRE Trail and Burke Lake Road with the sidewalk and bicycle lane on Burke Road to the Rolling Road VRE station. The Fairfax County Park Authority hosted a ribbon-cutting for the new trail in June 2012. The release further states that a new pedestrian and bicycle asphalt trail is planned to run within Pohick Stream Valley Park parallel to Pohick Creek. Cyclists traveled from the Burke VRE station to the trail bridge adjacent to the Burke Village II Shopping Center for the inaugural ride along the Pohick Stream Valley-Burke VRE Trail on Saturday, National Trails Day. The Fairfax County Park Authority hosted a ribbon-cutting for the new trail, which was funded in the Fairfax County transportation bond approved in November 2007. The total cost was $814,000. The new trail connecting the Burke VRE station with Burke Lake Road and the Burke Village Shopping Center will officially open Saturday, National Trails Day. Bicyclists will meet at the Burke VRE station Saturday at 9:30, and the bike convoy will leave at 9:40 a.m. to arrive in time for brief ribbon-cutting ceremonies. The ribbon-cutting is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the bridge on Burke Road, adjacent to the Burke Village II Shopping Center, 9570 Burke Road.
