A Woodbridge man died in an accident on Interstate 495 Tuesday afternoon, Virginia State Police said. After the accident, Richard L. Edwards, 24, of Woodbridge, was taken to Fairfax Inova Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. Virginia State Police responded to the scene of the two-vehicle crash at 2:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-495 at Braddock Road, in Fairfax County. The lanes open Saturday morning, and cops say violators will be caught.
The I-495 Express Lanes will open early Saturday morning, providing drivers with alternatives to the oft-crowded general purpose lanes – and the Virginia State Police want drivers to remember that they’ll be on the lookout for violators. “Safety and compliance are essential to the effectiveness of the 495 Express Lanes,” said Capt. Mike Spivey, the Fairfax Division Commander for the Virginia State Police, in a statement. “The same ‘rules of the road’ that apply to the general purpose lanes are also in effect on the new express lanes and will be strictly enforced by our troopers.” All travelers who wish to use the lanes will need an E-ZPass or E-ZPass Flex. Virginia State Police say man lost control of his car Monday night on I-66 ramp onto Fairfax County Parkway.
A Burke man driving a 2007 Corvette hit a state trooper car Monday night at about 6:12 p.m. while driving onto southbound Fairfax County Parkway from an Interstate 66 ramp, according to the Virginia State Police. The man, who was not identified by police, apparently lost control of his car, spun and around and "T-boned" the state trooper's car on the driver's side, according to police. The state trooper was taken to Fairfax Inova Hospital with minor injuries. The Burke resident was not injured, police said. Charges are pending against the Corvette driver, while police investigate the crash.

Virginia State Police said speed and alcohol were factors in the fatal crash.
A single-car crash early Thursday morning on the southbound ramp from Interstate 395 to westbound Route 236 (Little River Turnpike) left a Chantilly man dead and three people injured, according to Virginia State Police. A. Tawab Ebadi, 25, of Chantilly, was in the backseat of the car and died at the scene around 2:41 a.m. The other passengers in the vehicle, Ilyas Qualandri, 23, of Springfield, and Fernanda Ferrufino, 23, of Alexandria, were treated for non-life threatening injuries. The pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries.
A pedestrian was struck on I-66 just west of the Fairfax County Parkway Tuesday morning. The incident happened at 7 a.m., according to the Virginia State Police. The pedestrian was taken to Fairfax Inova Hospital with life-threatening injuries. All lanes were reopened to traffic as of 10 a.m., authorities said. Man, 70, veers into crash scene, charged with reckless driving.
Virginia State Police Trooper B.J. Norris was injured Saturday as he investigated a car crash in the northbound lanes of I-95, according to Corinne Geller of the Virginia State Police. As Trooper Norris was exiting his marked Ford Crown Victoria, a 2004 Lexus sedan veered out of the left northbound lane, sideswiped another patrol car on the scene, and crashed into the rear of Trooper Norris' car. The impact of the crash pushed the patrol car approximately 20 feet forward, into a Hyundai that had been involved in the original crash. Three Fairfax County incidents are under investigation.
Fake used-car ads on Craigslist have led to three recent robberies in Fairfax County. Two of the robberies occurred at the same location in the Newington area and the third in Clifton. Virginia State Police are investigating. In each incident, two male suspects in dark clothing robbed the victims at gunpoint, but police have not confirmed that the robberies are the work of the same suspects. "It looks like a legitimate car ad, but the price does tend to be too good to be true." said Fairfax County Police spokesperson Tawny Wright. "The bottom line is that people are posting ads with criminal intent. It's important for people to respond to these ads in a public place and in the daytime."
