Unlawful Entry (marked in red on above map), 7200 block of Ashview Drive, 10/1/12, 1:30 p.m. A resident reported he heard the front door bell ring and ignored it. A few minutes later he heard the front door open. An unknown man had entered the house. The suspect fled when confronted. The following items came from recent police updates through Sept. 21 from the Franconia, West Springfield and Sully police districts of the Fairfax County Police Department. Larceny (marked in blue on above map), 5600 block of Burke Centre Parkway, 9/16/12, 5:45 p.m. Officers observed a van with two individuals which matched the suspects of a previous burglary in the area. An investigative stop a made and an investigation was conducted. Jesus Uribe-Flores, 24, of Chesterfield, Virginia, was charged with driving on a suspended license and attempted grand larceny. The bicycly safety event is for kids ages 6 to 12.
West Springfield District Police are hosting a bicycle rodeo this Saturday, Sept. 29, for kids ages 6 to 12. The event will be held at the West Springfield District Station on Rolling Road from 1 to 5 p.m. Children will learn about bicycle safety and participate in a challenging obstacle course designed to reinforce safe riding. The police will have police vehicles and equipment on display. McGruff the Crime Dog will also make a visit. Families are welcome to stop by at anytime during the event. Car seats installed improperly can lead to injuries and death.
Car crashes are the leading cause of death for children age 1 - 13, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Many deaths and injuries are caused by the use of the wrong car seat and improperly installed child safety seats. Public safety officials are working to change that during Child Passenger Safety Week September 16-22, National Seat Check Saturday on September 22 and througout the year. NHTSA has provided information online to educate adults: Franconia District Police are holding a Car Seat Saturday event at the Inova Franconia-Springfield Healthplex from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on September 22. McGruff visited Kings Park West to promote back-to-school driving safety.
Braddock District Supervisor John Cook joined “McGruff” the Crime Dog and Officer J. T. Frey of the Fairfax County Police Department greeting Laurel Ridge Elementary students and parents Monday. The outreach initiated the Police Department’s Operation Blue Guardian, part of Supervisor Cook’s ongoing campaign to combat speeding and unsafe driving in our communities. Read the story here.

ROBBERY A 20-year-old man was robbed while working behind the counter of the Twinbrook Plaza Baskin Robbins, 9547 Braddock Road, on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at about 7:42 p.m., reported West Springfield District Police. The suspect displayed a knife and demanded money from the cash register. The victim complied and the suspect fled. Following the robbery, there was heavy police activity in the area, including the Fairfax County Police Helicopter, reported area residents. Crime report for early December 2011.
The West Springfield Police District Station reported the following crimes in December, through the week of Dec. 19, 2011. Burglary: A home in the 9300 block of Burke Road was burglarized between 9 a.m. and 5:10 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8. An investigation determined entry was forced through an interior garage door, but the exterior garage door was unlocked. Money and jewelry appeared to be missing. Graffiti/Bias Incident: Police located graffiti containing a racial slur spray-painted on the exterior of White Oaks Elementary School at 6130 Shiplett Boulevard around 3:51 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11. Police believe suspected carjacker Stephanie Lynn Schwab robbed a second bank.
West Springfield District Police are investigating the robbery of the BB&T Bank West Springfield Branch at 8432 Old Keene Mill Road on Tuesday, Nov. 22. The suspect in the robbery, Stephanie Lynn Schwab, 26, of the Manassas area, is also wanted as a suspect in last weekend's Tysons carjacking and Prince William County bank robbery. The suspect's mother, Helen Schwab, told Washington's NBC 4 she hasn't seen or heard from her daughter in two weeks. "I just want to say Stephanie, I love you. The West Springfield District Police reported three major incidents between October 19 and November 2, 2011. BURGLARY: A home in the 5700 block of Edgewater Oak Court was burglarized around 9:30 a.m. on Friday, October 21. The suspects were described as white, in their early 20s. DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED/ARREST: An off-duty Fairfax County police officer was involved in a single vehicle crash on Zion Drive on Monday, October 24 shortly after 3 a.m. The officer was the sole occupant of his personal vehicle when it struck a utility pole near the intersection of Grovewood Way.
