I am a resident of Burke very near to West Springfield. My wife and I have lived here for almost 30 years. I am a retired Army officer, working as a government contractor. I bike. Yes, I drive too, but I am on the asphalt enough to know what it takes to make our community more bicycling friendly. The bicycle is the "most efficient machine ever invented", to get around in our community and into the outside world (at least the near by world of Springfield, Annandale, Falls Church, and McLean (where I work).
I volunteer with Fairfax Advocates for Better Bicyling (FABB) a local advocacy group. My blogging will be about tying our suburban community closer through bicycling. I have been thinking about how we can make our community more liveable. Our residential areas are largely too spread out for walking, but the bicycle is tailor made for the distances involved. I hope you will join me as I share how I think bicycling can make our lives better.
