Make a Difference for Biking in Our Community

Fairfax County needs your knowledge of your community for the Master Bike Plan Open House Tuesday, Jan 24, 5:30 p.m.

If you could wave a wand, what changes would you make to enable your family to more often use those bikes you own?  Fairfax County wants to know.

How much money would you save if you left the car in the driveway for most of your short trips?

How much healthier would you and your family be if you routinely rode your bikes?

If many more of us used bikes instead of cars for some of our trips, what would our traffic and our lives look like?

  • You know where you can’t take you or your children bicycling because of poorly designed curbs, traffic signals and poorly maintained paths (the path in front of is severely damaged by tree roots and there is no other alternative to using Rolling Road).
  • You know where a five-foot path would allow you to easily reach an adjoining neighborhood to reach friends or go to the shopping center.
  • You know what where to make improvements that would allow children to bike or walk to school.
  • You know where there are missing shoulders on important roads (Burke Centre Parkway, for example).
  • You know where a major connecting road is too narrow and or poorly maintained to allow for safe travel of all but the most experienced bicyclists (Burke Road between Burke Lake Road and Rolling Road).
  • If you have taken rides on county paths, you know where lack of maintenance, tree roots, gravel, and lack of signage limit using our bicycles.

The County wants to incorporate what you know into the Master Plan.
