Meet our newest CASA Supervisor

CASA volunteers work closely with their supervisors to ensure that abused and neglected children receive the most effective advocacy possible. Meet Mary, Fairfax CASA's newest supervisor.

CASA volunteers collaborate as part of a team to help ensure that abused and neglected children receive the most effective advocacy possible. The other half of that team is a supervisor who works on staff at the Fairfax CASA office. Supervisors work closely with the volunteers and are with them every step of the way in the life of a case to provide support and guidance.

Our newest supervisor, Mary Mulvenon, comes to Fairfax CASA with a law degree and brings her experience as an attorney and an educational policy advocate to the position. Mary has served as a CASA volunteer herself and continues to actively work her case. Her challenging case has involved Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and several legal issues that have never been adjudicated in the Virginia courts.

Originally from Michigan, Mary received a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law, where she was awarded the Outstanding Child Advocate award from the Children’s Advocacy Institute.

Outside of work, Mary enjoys spending time with her daughters, Kate and Ellie, her husband, James, and their dog, C.J. Mary is a slow, but determined runner and is looking forward to being a part of the Fairfax CASA Run for the Children on May 4, 2013.
